Compare with other food dehydrators

For an affordable price, though not as cheap as basic models, the Waring Pro DHR30 Professional Food Dehydrator is certainly a step-up from the likes of the Presto Dehydro when you consider its variety of features. This particular model- while it is not among the most professional on the market- does its job and is entirely suited for newer users. Indeed, with its 3-settings thermostat it is exceptionally easy to use while at the same time packed with all the basic features that you’ll need to enjoy the various benefits of produce drying. With this particular appliance, users will be able to easily avoid the harmful chemicals that are so often added to store-bought jerky and fruit rolls.

Thanks to the DHR30 by Waring Pro, you will be able to enjoy your summer fruits right in the middle of winter. More importantly, it will provide you with a foolproof way to trick your kids into having their five portions of fruits and vegetables per day, especially if you encourage them to help you with the drying process.

On the flip side, this particular appliance lacks of some professional features, like a timer, for example; which just means that you will have to keep an eye on your produce. However, it should be considered that timers tent to be included only on the most expensive models, which the Waring Pro is certainly not. The Waring DHR30 is available in black and is protected by a limited 5-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Our Review:

Heat Distribution: 4/5

The Waring DHR30 is equipped with a top venting system, which means that it forces air horizontally across the trays. Unlike vertical air flow, horizontal heating ensures even drying, hence eliminating the need for constant rotation. Indeed, with poorer quality models, users normally have to open the machine to check on their food, something that has been known to drastically slow down the drying process. This is not at all necessary with this particular appliance, especially because of the even heat distribution system.

Capacity: 4.5/5waring dhr30

The Waring Pro comes with five interlocked trays that are stacked on top of each other, hence allowing you to save up on counter space. Additionally, it can be expanded to 9 trays if you purchase them separately. Thanks to the expandable feature, you’ll be able to easily whip up several batches of your favorite food in one go, which means that you will save on time.

On the other side, while the appliance is entirely expandable, some users have found it to be on the smaller side, which could be a good thing if you had limited counter space. However, if it’s not the case, you could always check out other models with a higher capacity such as the similarly-priced Nesco FD-61, or if you want something more advanced, the Nesco FD-1040.

Other Features: 4/5

While the DHR30 doesn’t include a timer, it does come with a thermostat that boasts of three adjustable temperature levels (fan only) that can be adjusted on Low, High or Medium. This makes using the appliance much easier, although if you need a precise temperature it can also be limiting. When it comes to temperature range, the DHR30 can be adjusted between 110 to 175 degrees Fahrenheit.

waring pro dehydratorWith a 620-watt capacity, the dehydrator can easily dry various types of produce including, but not limited to, fruit leather, pasta, soup, several types of meat, herbs, vegetables or even milk powder. One customer stated that he need around 2 to 3 hours to dry cherry tomatoes, grapes, and apples. This same user required around 7 to 8 hours to dehydrate banana slices and halved orange slices to make crunchy fruit crisps. As far as the noise goes, a few customers did find the appliance to be on the noisy side but it’s still quite tolerable when compared to other models.

You can also use the dehydrator to dry non-edible items like clay, photo frames, potpourri and flower petals. Users will even receive an instructions manual that contains various handy tips with recipe suggestions. Best of all, the boxed packaging even comes with a fruit-roll sheet to help you easily dry semi-solid produce such as fruit purees.

Overall Rating: 4/5

While not entirely free of downsides, this dehydrator easily does its job and will suit customers who don’t plan on using it on a daily basis. It is extremely cost-effective and can be used for various purposes. Users will also appreciate the dishwasher-safe option that certainly facilitates cleaning-up, especially if you’ve used the machine to dry sticky products such as fruit rolls, strawberries, oranges or jerky. Since it weighs only 9.6 pounds, it can easily be moved to any area of your kitchen. Because of its attractive design, however, you can easily leave it out on the counter to add an extra touch of class to your kitchen decor.
